February 20, 2007

Adam Van Daele gave an interesting presentation today on his company Rogers-O’Brien Construction (RO). RO is the 14th largest builder in Dallas and Austin and is the key general contractor on many commercial real estate projects. In his role at RO, Adam is responsible for developing business connections with Fortune 10 companies, business owners and real estate developers.

One of the key points that Adam detailed this morning is the evolving nature of commercial bids. While they do the fixed bid pricing commonly found among other GCs, they have developed a unique process for conceptual bidding, where they can work with architects and owners at the preliminary stages of a project and provide budgetary ranges that can be used for financing. This type of conceptual bidding can be extremely important in helping businesses scope the project and maximize their cost savings.

While RO has a rich history of constructing a variety of projects they are constantly evolving their internal processes to address environmental and safety issue at the start of every effort. And they continue to be a pioneer in the ethics of construction through a focused emphasis on their mission, values and quality statements to customers.
